What is self discipline?
It’s the price tag of running your own business & being your leader.
Here are some small ways to create self discipline.
1- Have a mentor
Don’t go through your first year and beyond alone. Know that it’s okay to ask for advice, and lots of it from your manager, broker or mentor. A mentor will help you be clear and prioritize your business goals. They will hold you accountable if you ask them. They’ll give you advice on how to set up accountability phone calls and meet ups.
2- Know that having talent does not exempt us from discipline issues
There are many talented people out there who don’t reach their full potentials because of a lack of self-discipline. Start small. You can’t go from point A to Z quickly. When you remind yourself of this, it helps create accountability by you for you.
Focus on one project at a time and use your calendar. Business owners can fall into the trap of multitasking and trying to juggle more than one thing at a time. If you don’t have one already get a paper calendar and use it. Put your priorities on a list and with the highest priority up top and check it off one at a time.
4- Self Disciplined people know the difference between important and urgent
Important = Need this to achieve goals.
Urgent= Time sensitive, shift your focus temporarily but spend more time on what’s important. Don’t neglect relationships.
5- Be Efficient and Effective
Efficiency is doing things right. Effectiveness is doing the right things.
6- Work with your strengths
If you’re good at something spending most of your time here.
The only way to change results is to change your habits. If you need to change your habits, this is where self discipline comes in. Think of a rubber band, you must stretch a rubber band for it to be useful. This goes to stretching your habits to achieve results.
